Made In Japan

Greetings from the PurplePatty.com Community! Prior to 1921 items manufactured in Japan were marked Nippon or Made In Nippon. It wasn't until after 1921 that items were manufactured and imported into the U.S. with the marks of Japan or Made in Japan.

This is with exception to the period between August 1945 and April 28, 1952, where you would see the primary mark of Made in Occupied Japan. However, you would still see some items during this time marked Japan or Made In Japan. A very unpredictable period in Japanese manufacturing and exporting.

These items were designed by American import companies that sent their orders to Japan for manufacturing. Japan manufactured and exported the items back to the American import companies where they were distributed and sold in the United States market.

Most collectors will lean more towards a specific line of items. There are certainly many to choose from in the categories of ceramics, glass, or metal. Because this is such a large category of items, values extend from one end of the spectrum to the other. If you decide to collect in this genre, keep your focus on specifics (period, line, type) because it is very easy to be distracted and want it all.

Here's to a day full of Shopping and Smiles!
