Auctions - Bid or Watch

Greetings from the PurplePatty.com Community!

So you see something online that you would really like to have or may need for your collection. Do you bid right away or do you watch the item and wait until the last few minutes before the auction closes and place a bid?

There are pros and cons to both approaches. If you bid right away, sometimes that prompts other bidders who bid because they aren't going to let you get it for such a low price. That can sometimes drive the bid up for the people that really want the item. So, don't get caught up in a bidding war 5 days before the item closes.

Keep your cool :-) Place a bid as a marker and see how many people may be interested in the item. On the last couple of days (not minutes) before the item closes, put in your maximum proxy bid. Then let it be what it will be.

If you end up with the "winning" bid, good for you and if you don't, you didn't spend more for the item than you intended. Don't hang around until the final minutes, you can get caught up in a bidding frenzy and end up bidding more than you wanted to "win" the item. It's a great adrenalin rush, but it can turn into an expensive habit.

Did you ever end up bidding more for an item than you intended?

Here's to a day full of shopping and smiles!
